Does the tree feel shame

When she sheds her leaves

In the fall?

 

Does the snake get nostalgic

For the comfort of her old skin?

 

Does guilt fester in the mountain

When she smothers in an avalanche

Two human souls?

 

Does the very Earth herself—

Gaia, in all her splendor and majesty—

Grow depressed and sad

When, desperate to heal herself,

She falters and

Feels she can no longer spin?

 

Do two waves

Moved by the moon

Find one another

And rock and roll softly

Tiny dancing

On the shore

Like soulmates?

 

Does the sand sing to the crab?

 

Animals laugh at human vocab?

 

What about the dolphins and their mirth?

Doesn’t their love echo throughout the Earth?
